Teachers at Union High School were greeted with signs of encouragement Monday morning as they arrived for a training session ahead of the new school year.

Across the street, members of Asbury church stood along the curb near 66th Street and Mingo Road to show appreciation for the district’s educators.

A morning of encouragement

The gathering began before 8 a.m., just as teachers arrived for professional development inside the school. Church members held colorful signs with messages of gratitude and support.

Why it matters

Union Public Schools begins classes on Aug. 14, and organizers say they wanted to start the year with a visible message of appreciation. The church is located directly across from Union High School, making it a convenient spot for the show of support.

A visible reminder

Drivers passing by the area may have noticed the group along the roadside. Organizers said the effort was a simple but meaningful way to recognize the work educators do year-round.
