Bartlesville Police looking for thieves who stole $100,000 worth of equipment from asphalt crew

Bartlesville Police are looking for the thieves who stole more than $100,000 worth of equipment from an asphalt company that was doing work in town.

Police have recovered most of it, including a company truck and a high-dollar pressure washer.

Police say the thieves stole the company truck, then used it to commit more burglaries and even wore Holbrook Asphalt clothes.

Holbrook Asphalt is based in Utah, and crews have been in Bartlesville for weeks for a major pavement project. Earlier this week, crews left the job site for the night, and thieves broke into their equipment trailer and stole tools, a marked company truck, and other equipment.

When crews got there the next morning, they noticed what was missing.

"We were seeing things posted on social media to watch out for our equipment, these guys with Holbrook Asphalt were stealing things, trying to steal a trailer, and we had to let folks know that that wasn't us," said Senior VP of Holbrook Asphalt, Mark Beatty.

Police: Crime spree continued

Bartlesville Police say the thieves took the truck to another part of town and tried to commit other burglaries.

"It was actually in residential neighborhoods, we have this truck where they tried to steal a lawn trailer full of lawn equipment, and the citizens caught them doing it and ran them off at the time they were trying to hook the trailer up, things along those lines," said Deputy Chief Andrew Ward with Bartlesville Police.

Police say they even wore the company's clothing as a disguise.

"It possibly made him feel more comfortable. He's driving the truck with the name on it and had their clothing so it kind of fit together, so maybe people wouldn't think anything about that. It all matched," said Ward.

Police Recovered most of the stolen equipment in 24 hours:

The company says they have a GPS tracker on the truck, so police were able to find the truck and other equipment, but thousands of dollars worth of tools are still missing.

"When you are trying to do a good thing and support the city and preserve their infrastructure, to have some folks come in and damage the project is painful," said Beatty.
