Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander now has an official release date for his first signature sneaker with Converse. The SHAI 001 "Butter" colorway will be available to the public on September 4, the brand announced Thursday via social media.
Fans can sign up on the Converse website to receive an email alert when the shoe goes on sale.
The sneaker was first revealed during All-Star Weekend and showcased at the SHAI 001 STUDIO pop-up in San Francisco, which included a live performance by hip-hop artist Lil Yachty.
Converse originally announced last fall that a signature shoe was in development for the Oklahoma City Thunder star. Gilgeous-Alexander, who signed with Converse in 2020, played a direct role in the design.
“I started the creating process when I started sketching,” he told Andscape. “It hit me that, not only do I have a shoe, but I am able to create a shoe from my expression, my art and how I see a basketball shoe.”
With the SHAI 001, Gilgeous-Alexander becomes just the 10th athlete ever to have a Converse signature shoe, joining the likes of Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Chuck Taylor, and Elton Brand, who last had a Converse signature model in 2010.
Fans can now mark their calendars for 9.4.25 — the official drop date for one of the year’s most anticipated basketball sneakers.
