Mike Gundy is Careful with his Quarterbacks

Reporters tried gaining some insight into who might be ahead in the battle for the starting quarterback spot, but the head coach offered very little other than saying Zane Flores and Hauss Hejny have been splitting reps. Mike Gundy says “all options are on the table” at the moment when it comes to the season opener. Gundy likes the fact that both Flores and Hejny can run. For their part, the two seemed poised and relaxed when answering questions. You can apparently give the edge to Flores when it comes to another sport- he says he’s probably the best golfer among the Cowboy quarterbacks. Hejny, while being the longest hitter in the bunch, doesn’t dispute Flores’ claim.

Linebackers Could be a Big Strength

OSU needed transfer portal help at the position with the departure of Nick Martin and Collin Oliver to the pros, and while the talent added is relatively unproven at the power 5 level the early signs are promising. Malik Charles from West Georgia has good size at 6-3, 283 and two-time All-MAC selection Bryan McCoy Jr from Akron is not only athletic, but he carries himself like a professional in interviews. McCoy gave thoughtful and insightful answers to questions and could easily become a fan favorite.

There's New Energy in Stillwater

It’s common for teams in the preseason to project a positive tone- there aren’t any losses to sour the mood- but there is definitely some new energy in the program. Defensive lineman Aden Kelley talked with us at length about a growing sense of accountability, and so far there aren’t any issues when it comes to some players making more money than others.

Now once some roadwork that has currently shut down the intersection at Hall of Fame and Washington is finished then everyone will be happy.
