Construction at Lake Bixhoma, Haikey Creek Bridge to impact drivers in Bixby

Drivers in Bixby should prepare for delays and detours as two major infrastructure projects begin affecting travel near Haikey Creek Bridge and Lake Bixhoma, the city announced.

Why Is The Haikey Creek Bridge Closed?

Starting Monday, Aug. 4, Haikey Creek Bridge will be closed west of East 121st Street South and South Garnett Road for construction.

With many disappointed in the bridges’ closure, others are excited that the bridge will be improved. One Facebook user commented, “The way I'm sad that I can't drive the road. [But,] so excited that bridge may not have the 'bumps' anymore that even at 3 mph could send my little car off the road.”

When Will The Haikey Creek Bridge Be Fixed?

The rehabilitation project is expected to last 75 days, with the bridge tentatively scheduled to reopen on Oct. 18.

The closure comes just weeks before Bixby Public Schools return from summer break, with the first day of classes set for Aug. 19.

Is All Of Bixhoma Lake Closed?

Not entirely, but construction is underway on the north side of Lake Bixhoma, including the north boat ramp. That portion of the lake is closed and will remain off-limits for the duration of the project, which is expected to last 240 days, wrapping up around March 2026.

Reminder: Ongoing construction in the 111th Street and Memorial area may also cause delays.
