I have been in the process of going through the News On 6 sports archives as we prepare to move to a new editing system. On Monday afternoon, I spent nearly an hour watching Barry Sanders highlights from his time at Oklahoma State.

In his Heisman campaign season of 1988, Sanders rushed for 2,628 yards and 37 touchdowns in 11 regular-season games. If you count his impressive Holiday Bowl performance of 222 yards and scored five touchdowns in just three quarters, he would have 2,850 yards and 42 touchdowns.

The 1988 Season

Sanders opened the 1988 season with a bang, becoming the first player to open two consecutive seasons with a 100-yard kickoff return. He recorded multiple rushing touchdowns in every game that season, including three games where he scored 5 touchdowns.

When the season was over, he broke 34 NCAA records, including 2,628 yards rushing, 3,250 total all-purpose yards, 234 points, 37 rushing touchdowns and 39 total touchdowns.

Sanders would take home the Heisman Trophy while the Cowboys were in Tokyo, preparing to take on Texas Tech in the Coca-Cola Classic, sweeping all 6 voting regions.

Here's a look at some of the highlights from Sanders' incredible career at OSU.
