Some people in Wagoner County are upset about a road that's in pretty bad shape. There's been confusion on whether the city or the county is responsible for getting it fixed.

The road is falling apart

There are a lot of potholes and visible crumbling on South 260th Road between East 740 and East 750 Roads.

"This is a death trap here," said Bryan Burrows, a man who lives on the street.

"I spent some time in Afghanistan and there were roads that I traveled daily," said Burrows. "That was better maintained than this one."

Burrows says the damage has really picked up after the recent heavy rainfalls. He called the city and the county, trying to get it fixed, but says he hasn't gotten any definite answers.

It's a city road that the county has kept up

Though it is not in the city limits, Wagoner Mayor Dalton Self says the road is a city street because it was annexed more than 50 years ago. However, Self says the county has commonly maintained the road in that span.

Wagoner County District 2 commissioner Randy Stamps says the county wants to fix it but the city needs to give the road up first. The mayor says the city does plan to give the road up during the next council meeting in August.

County hopes to start repairs as soon as possible

Stamps says the county will accept the road and move quickly to get it fixed. That's welcomed news for Burrows.

"I don't want anybody in trouble," he said. "I just want them to do their job."
