Folk music legend Woody Guthrie is releasing new music decades after his death.
According to a new report from The New York Times, the Guthrie estate is preparing to release Woody at Home: Volume 1 and 2, a posthumous album featuring 20 tracks and two spoken-word interludes. Thirteen of the songs have never been released before.
The collection also includes a new version of Guthrie’s iconic anthem, “This Land Is Your Land,” complete with additional verses that were not part of the original recording.
The tracks were originally recorded on a home tape recorder and have remained mostly unheard until now. Advances in audio restoration technology have made it possible to clean up the decades-old tapes and bring them to life with higher quality sound.
Woody at Home will be released on August 14 and can be pre-ordered at WoodyGuthrie.org.
The project adds to the enduring legacy of Guthrie, whose influence on American folk music and protest songs continues to span generations.
