Tulsa Police have identified the woman shot and killed by an officer Saturday night as Danielle Fisher.
Officers were called to a home near East Admiral Place and South 189th East Avenue around 9 P.M. after a report of a woman armed with knives. Tulsa Police said a neighbor reported that Fisher had approached with knives and was acting erratically. At one point, she allegedly swung a knife as a child on a bicycle rode past.

When officers arrived, they heard two people arguing inside the home. As they knocked on the door, police said Fisher suddenly appeared with a knife in each hand and charged at them.
“She comes to the door with two knives, one in each hand, and comes towards the officers in an aggressive manner,” said Tulsa Police Captain Richard Meulenberg. “One officer, because of the threat she imposed, fired upon her.”
Officers rendered aid immediately, but Fisher died at the scene.
Another man inside the house was described by police as uncooperative. He was taken into custody at the scene.
Captain Meulenberg also emphasized the risk officers face in close-range encounters like this one, and officers are trained to stop threats quickly before anyone gets hurt.
“One thing to know is that our body armor cannot stop a knife,” Meulenberg said. “It's not designed to stop a knife so you can put a knife through the body armor. It’s designed to stop bullets. The other thing we do hear is shoot for some other body part, that happens a lot and I will tell you that you have got moving people, moving officers, moving suspects and you are going to look for the largest area possible. The idea is we don't shoot to kill anybody; that's never the goal. We shoot to stop the action. Officers are going to engage and fire rounds to stop the aggressive behavior, to stop the threat that is existing from this person."
Neighbors in the area say they’ve lived in the neighborhood for decades and have seen crime increase in recent years. They report more people experiencing homelessness walking through the area and said this is the second shooting nearby in the past few months.
Meulenberg says the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave. The Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office will review the case.
