Changes to the school medication policy are coming to Catoosa Public Schools for the 2025-2026 school year.
The district says that because of the growing student population, the school will no longer administer morning medications.
“We understand this change may require a few adjustments at home, and we truly appreciate your support as we make these updates in the best interest of our students,” said Jennifer Conley with Catoosa Public Schools’ Health Services department.
Why is the medication policy changing?
Catoosa Public Schools says this school year will have seven grades in one building for the first time, which means more students and activity in the building. The district says changing how it manages medication will help streamline routines and continue to support students.
“Adjusting how we manage medication is a practical and necessary step as we continue to support the health needs of all students,” said Conley.
How is it changing?
Starting this school year, the district says schools will no longer administer morning medications to students, unless specified by the student’s healthcare provider. The district says those prescriptions must have a specific time clearly printed on the pharmacy label. Medications that do not have a specific time will not be accepted.
Anyone with questions is asked to contact the school nurse.
