While many firework vendors across the country are struggling with increased prices due to new tariffs on imported goods, the Oolagah High School Marching Band says its longtime fundraising stand is largely unaffected this season.
For 20 years, the band has relied on fireworks sales to support its program. This year, despite nationwide concerns about price hikes, Band Director Jon Matthews said their supplier, TNT Fireworks, had already stocked most of their inventory before the tariffs took effect.
"We are in a good spot, honestly," Matthews said. "TNT usually stocks most of their product well before the season, so they actually had probably 80 to 90 percent of their product in the warehouse before that tariff hit."
As a result, the stand's prices remain similar to last year's, with some being even lower.
Matthew says the future remains uncertain, saying that they aren't sure what prices will look like next year.
The stand is back open today with specials on remaining inventory. All proceeds from the sales go toward supporting the marching band’s performances, travel, and equipment needs.
