Michael Bremo, a Tulsa-based percussionist and educator, is inviting kids to discover the power of rhythm this summer through his hands-on, movement-based music camp.
Bremo is the founder and instructor behind the "I've Got Rhythm" Summer Camp, a five-day musical experience designed for kids ages 9 to 13.
The camp will take place July 7-11, 2025, from 9 a.m. to noon each day at Drum World, located at 2226 S. 92nd E. Ave. in Tulsa.
Instruments are provided, and no prior experience is needed.
The camp introduces young musicians to rhythm through a blend of movement, drumming and group activities. The goal, Bremo said, is not just to teach technique but to help kids feel the pulse of music and how it connects people.
Bremo, who has played drums for about 20 years and taught for more than a decade, is passionate about percussion and its cultural significance.
"What I love about music is DRUMS," he said. "There's something magnetic, almost hypnotic about rhythms and how it’s all intertwined with various instruments playing various but all connected the steady pulse of the music."
Bremo's background plays a central role in the experience he brings to the camp. He was born and raised on the island of Aruba and has strong ties to Colombia in South America. That upbringing, he said, helped shape his musical style.
"I was heavily influenced by Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Cuban and American musical styles," Bremo added.
Today, he plays a wide range of percussion instruments, with a specialty in Latin and Brazilian styles.
The camp is open to kids between 9 and 13 years old. Parents can learn more or sign up at rhythm.michaelbremo.com or via Eventbrite.
