Mark and Amy Gorman opened Tails & Ales in May 2024 after adopting a high-energy dog during the COVID-19 pandemic.

They said regular visits to the dog park helped them recognize a need for a space that combined dog-friendly recreation with a more comfortable, social environment.

Their personal experience also highlighted how difficult it can be to meet people as adults, something the dog park naturally facilitated. That idea became the foundation for their business.

Blending coffee, cocktails and community

Located at 1903 S. Boston Ave. in Tulsa's SoBo district, Tails & Ales blends the functionality of a dog park with a neighborhood bar and coffee shop.

The Gormans describe the concept as a community center—something between a public park and your own backyard—where patrons can relax, meet new people and bring their dogs along for the fun.

Learning and growing through year one

Opening a new kind of business in Tulsa presented some early challenges for the couple, who adjusted their original dog park bar idea as they received feedback from the community.

Despite those changes, the Gormans say the experience has been both rewarding and fulfilling, especially as they watch customers form real friendships through shared visits to the park.

A place for all walks of life

Patrons come from all over Tulsa, with visitors ranging from young professionals and families to retirees. While many regulars are dog owners, Tails & Ales also attracts guests who simply enjoy the outdoor space and community vibe.

The Gormans say the wide mix of people is part of what makes the place feel special.

Celebrating summer with pups & popsicles

This Fourth of July, the business is hosting a special event called Pups & Popsicles. The celebration will include frozen treats for both dogs and humans, cooling stations, festive cocktails, a photo booth and music.

It's designed as a pre-fireworks celebration where dogs and their humans can beat the heat and enjoy the holiday together.

Entry is always free for humans, but dogs require a small cover fee. All dogs must be fixed and up-to-date on vaccinations.
