The city of Claremore is starting a new tradition with its first Lilac Festival. The event blends native and settler traditions into one community celebration.
The Lilac Festival is June 26-June 28 in downtown Claremore's Lilac District at 414 W Will Rogers Blvd. The festivities begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
The Lilac Festival is a celebration of the city's rich cultural heritage. Committee Chairperson Susan Gebhart said, “This festival is all about honoring Claremore’s past while celebrating the growth and revitalization of the Lilac District."
The name of the festival pays tribute to Claremore native and Cherokee playwright Lynn Riggs whose play, Green Grow the Lilacs, inspired the musical Oklahoma!
The Lilac Festival is filled with music, food, art, and family-friendly activities. Here is a daily breakdown:
Thursday, June 26 (6-9 p.m.)
Friday, June 27 (6-9 p.m.)
Saturday, June 28 (9 a.m.-noon)
