Greenwood Rising History Center is hosting the third installment of its 2025 Books for Thought series on June 26 at 6 p.m., featuring Tulsa-born poet, actor, and author Julian Thomas.
The event will be held at Greenwood Rising in the historic Greenwood District.
Books for Thought is a community-focused literary series that amplifies Black voices through author talks, audience Q&A sessions, and book signings.
Each installment highlights authors and scholars whose work sparks critical thought and dialogue around race, identity, and society.
The Books for Thought series reflects Greenwood Rising’s broader goal of promoting truth-telling and cultural understanding. Events are designed to engage the community in meaningful conversations while preserving historical memory through the lens of Black literature and scholarship.
The organization said creating space for dialogue and critical thinking is central to their role as a center for education, healing, and progress.
This will be the third of five planned events in the 2025 Books for Thought series. Organizers say each gathering strengthens community connection and deepens appreciation for shared history.
The event is free and open to the public.
Julian Thomas is a Tulsa native whose multidisciplinary career spans poetry, acting, audiobook narration, and mentorship. A graduate of Northwestern University’s theater program, he is known for appearances in the Amazon Prime series Hunters, ABC’s For Life, and comedy sketches on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
He has performed poetry nationwide and narrated more than 20 audiobooks, including Of Blood and Sweat by Clyde W. Ford and We Matter: Athletes and Activism by Etan Thomas.
