Bixby is set to celebrate one of its longest-standing traditions this weekend with the return of the Green Corn Festival, bringing carnival rides, live music and family-friendly fun to the heart of downtown.
This year, the festival kicks off Thursday evening at Charley Young Event Park with an extra day of carnival fun, marking its 51st year as a staple of the city’s summer calendar.
The Green Corn Festival began more than five decades ago as a way to honor Bixby’s agricultural roots. Today, it continues to draw families and visitors with its unique mix of nostalgic charm and high-energy entertainment.
This year, festivities start with an extra day of carnival rides Wednesday night. From classic tilt-a-whirls to fast-paced attractions, there’s something for every thrill level.
Festivalgoers can enjoy a packed lineup of activities, including:
The weekend also includes games, contests and shopping opportunities from local artisans.
One of the most cherished traditions is the Little Miss and Mister Green Corn Pageant. On Thursday evening, young contestants take the stage to represent the spirit of the festival.
This year’s Little Miss Green Corn, Channing Lewis, shared what makes the event so special for her.
“The slide is my favorite because you get to race people and you get to meet new friends on it sometimes,” Lewis said.
The festival runs through Saturday, offering a full day of events for all ages. It’s free to attend, and many activities are family-friendly.
The full schedule of events is available on the Bixby Optimist Club's website.
