A Green Country man is angry because he says he was hit by a 19-year-old who didn't have a license and police say she was drinking, but she wasn't arrested.
He says now he's working extra shifts to pay for a car, since his was totaled in the crash.
Details of the crash
Three weeks before Rowdy Waits' baby boy was born, Rowdy was driving to work as an EMT on Highway 169, at the beginning of April.
"Trying to pick up some overtime, like I said, we were trying to make a little extra money before the baby gets here," said Rowdy Waits.
He says a teenager crashed into his car from behind, and says the impact was so hard, he crashed into the center median and his airbag went off and the scariest part was imagining his wife, who was pregnant at the time, being a widow with two children under two.
"I could just think of my family and what life would be like if they were gone, or if I was gone," said Waits.
The aftermath of a car crash
The accident report says the 19-year-old driver admitted she'd been drinking earlier and she didn't have a license.
But the driver at fault wasn't arrested.
"I'm not trying to offer an excuse, but lots of times investigations take longer than we want them to, and it's just the process. So I'm hoping that when I get some information back from the supervisors that were at the scene that I can have some better answers for you about where we are in this investigation," Captain Richard Meulenberg, Tulsa Police Department.
Rowdy says now he and his wife are left with only one car, and the driver was also uninsured.
"It just takes away from my job and being able to provide for them, being able to get my wife to appointments, or get herself to appointments, it's been a very big struggle. You know, my kids, they're not able to, you know, go out and do a typical kid thing while I'm at work," said Waits.
The driver's statement
I called the driver who hit Rowdy and she said she had no comment.
