A Kellyville couple is frustrated after waiting more than a year to see the person who hit and killed their son held accountable.
Christopher Edgar has been charged with misdemeanor negligent homicide for the death of Calvin Casteel.
Calvin Casteel was riding his motorcycle in Sapulpa in April of last year when police say Christopher Edgar failed to yield while turning onto a highway and hit Calvin.
He died a few days later.
"Never take life for granted, because it can all be gone in the blink of an eye. And you know, if there's anybody else out there that this has happened to you, we need to fight to change the laws on this kind of thing and make people liable for their actions," said Clifford Barnes, Calvin's dad.
"Her personality, her smile, she looks just like him," said Sheila Barnes, Calvin's mother.
Calvin's now one-year-old little girl was just three weeks old when he died, but her family makes sure she still knows him.
"Her mama puts pictures in front of her, and she talks to her daddy, and she knows who he is. You can say things like, 'Where's Dada?' And she'll point right, straight to the picture," said Sheila.
Calvin's family says their heartache will never end, and they just want justice for Calvin and all those who loved him.
The maximum penalty for misdemeanor negligent homicide would be up to a year in jail.
"People need to pay for what they've done, you know, for their crimes, or whatever, you know. And you can't just close your eyes and walk away and act like it never happened," said Clifford.
Calvin's family has been to court several times, but it's been postponed several times, and the next hearing is set for July.
Sheila said, "I don't know how seriously it's being taken, it's the system that's, you know, what else do you do?"
News On 6 contacted Edgar’s attorney but haven't heard back yet.
There's a motorcycle poker run Saturday, June 14, in honor of Calvin and to raise money to pay off his headstone.
It starts at Crawpappy's Bar and Grill on E. 51 Street in Tulsa, followed by three more stops.
Registration is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. It's $20 per rider, $10 per passenger, and extra hands are $10. The highest hand is $300.
