One of the most exciting and grueling bike races in the country is back in Tulsa for the 19th year. For Tulsa Tough and the riders who brave it, there's no such thing as a race without support.
Tulsa's biggest bike race, the Tulsa Tough, is back, and it’s bringing excitement for everyone.
“Even if you're not a cyclist, hard core, softcore, in any way, shape or form, there is a way for you to be involved in the event,” Director Malcom McCollam said.
Some people have a special role. As cyclists navigate through the courses at Tulsa Tough, there’s a team keeping a close eye on their every move. As an emergency coordinator, the technology inside their communication trailer helps Paul Teel and his team pinpoint riders’ locations and, more importantly, send help to those who need it.
“A rider calls in with a flat, gives us their bib number and their location, we then will dispatch the nearest SAG to them to help assist and get the flat tire fixed and get them back on the course,” he said.
These men are always ready to answer the call so riders can finish what they started.
“We want to get them fixed, back on the route, so they can complete the training they’ve been doing for a year,” said Teel.
