Kansas City Royals fans got more than just baseball over the weekend. Hollywood actor and Kansas City native Paul Rudd made a surprise appearance at Kauffman Stadium — and even joined a fan-favorite tradition.
At every Royals home game, three fans dress up as hot dog toppings — ketchup, mustard and relish — and race in the fan-favorite Hot Dog Derby.
On Saturday, Rudd suited up as ketchup and joined the race, drawing cheers from the crowd. In true Hollywood fashion, he won.
Despite the extra entertainment, the Royals couldn't pull off a win. The team lost 1-0 to the Detroit Tigers.
Rudd wasn’t in town just for baseball. His visit was part of the annual Big Slick Celebrity Weekend — a two-day fundraiser for Children’s Mercy Hospital. The event was launched in 2010 by Rudd and fellow Shawnee Mission alums Rob Riggle and Jason Sudeikis.
Over the years, the fundraiser has grown to include other Kansas City stars, including actor David Koechner, “Saturday Night Live” cast member Heidi Gardner, and Chiefs players Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce.
This year’s Big Slick raised a record $4.5 million — the highest total in the fundraiser’s 16-year history. In total, the event has generated nearly $30 million for pediatric cancer research and care.

Rudd’s win in the Hot Dog Derby was just one memorable moment in a weekend full of hometown pride and charitable giving.
