Oklahoma State dropped its NCAA Athens Regional opener Friday night, falling 12-5 to No. 2 seed Duke at Foley Field.
The third-seeded Cowboys (28-24) hit four home runscourtesy of Kollin Ritchie, Garrett Shull, Ian Daugherty, and Brock Thompson—but left nine runners on base. They’ll face Binghamton in an elimination game Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.
Starter Mario Pesca (7-3) allowed nine runs in three innings, while Brennan Phillips struck out a career-high eight over five strong innings in relief.
Duke (38-19) built a 9-0 lead by the third inning, sparked by three early extra-base hits. OSU chipped away with solo shots in the fifth and sixth, then added three more runs in the eighth, but couldn’t close the gap.
