Officer Isaiah Roberts was arrested around 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Rogers County Courthouse, where he believed he was meeting officials to accept a job as a detention officer. Instead, he was taken into custody.

Investigators say the arrest followed a background check that uncovered Roberts had pawned a thermal scope, valued at more than $1,000, at Penrose Pawn Shop in Broken Arrow on May 12.

According to the affidavit, Roberts signed a pawn ticket claiming he had owned the scope for two years. He received a $300 loan in exchange for the item, which authorities say was stolen from the Inola Police Department.

Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton said he’s proud his office’s screening process exposed the alleged crime.

"Here's a guy that has the ability to make decisions that affect somebody's life and he can't run his own," Walton said. "It's insulting to me to think that he could put an application in and be hired in a fine organization like this with fine men and women that do an honorable job in an honorable profession. And it's obviously it's the clowns like this that bring this credit to that."

Roberts is being held at the Rogers County Jail and faces one count of embezzlement.
