The Trump administration is facing mounting challenges in its efforts to broker peace in two high-stakes global conflicts between Israel and Hamas, and Ukraine and Russia, with few signs of progress.

On Monday, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem traveled to Jerusalem to offer condolences following the fatal shooting of two Israeli embassy staffers in Washington, D.C. She reaffirmed U.S. support for Israel during the ongoing violence with Hamas.

“President Trump extends his greetings and his grief to all of you, and he stands with you as we fight this hatred in the world,” Noem said during her visit.

According to the news site Axios, White House envoy Steve Witkoff said he is disappointed that Hamas has not accepted the administration’s latest proposal for a ceasefire and hostage exchange deal.

Meanwhile, President Trump is also growing increasingly frustrated with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as Russian forces continue bombarding Ukrainian cities amid ongoing ceasefire negotiations.

Republican Congressman Don Bacon is among those Republicans in Congress calling for tougher action.

He said peace talks are having “zero effect” on Putin and urged the administration to impose maximum sanctions and ramp up military support for Ukraine.

Germany announced Monday that European allies will now allow Ukraine to fire long-range missiles into Russia, targeting military infrastructure. The U.S. previously eased restrictions on this last year.

In a related development, the European Union has agreed to accelerate trade negotiations with the U.S. following President Trump’s threat to impose 50% tariffs on European goods.

“The president said talks last week were going nowhere. Do you feel like there has been progress, or that there can be progress?” CBS News correspondent Natalie Brand asked National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett.

“Oh yeah, there can be progress, but we need a lot more progress,” Hassett said. “So the progress was slower than in most of the other negotiations, and that’s why the president did what he did. I think it was a prudent call.”

Following a call with the president of the European Commission, Trump says he has extended his tariff deadline until July 9.
