Oklahoma State and Oklahoma will square off in a high-stakes Bedlam matchup Tuesday morning as both teams advance to the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship quarterfinals at La Costa.
HIGH STAKES BEDLAM ON TAP FOR TUESDAY
It doesn’t happen nearly as often as it used to, but there will be Bedlam on a national stage on Tuesday when 4th-seeded OSU faces 5th-seeded OU in the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships match play quarterfinals in Carlsbad, California.
HOW THEY GOT THERE
After four rounds of stroke play the Cowboys moved up from seventh to fourth, thanks in part to Preston Stout’s strong finish. The Big 12 individual champion at Southern Hills closed with a 2-under par 70 on Monday to finish the four rounds at 7-under. Stout finished third in the NCAA individual standings.
The Sooners’ Drew Goodman helped pace OU on Monday with a 2-under 70. OU had been as high as third in the team standings, but the Sooners played the final two holes in a combined six over par to slip to 5th.
ANOTHER BIG 12 TEAM SHOWING THE WAY
Arizona State, who finished second to OSU in the Big 12, tied for the low round of the day at 8-under and jumped ahead of Auburn for the top seed heading into match play.
WHAT HAPPENS FROM HERE
The Bedlam battle is one of four quarterfinal matches on Tuesday morning in Carlsbad. Teams have to win 3 of the 5 matches to advance. The national semifinals will take place Tuesday afternoon with the national championship match set for Wednesday.
