Oklahoma (32-18, 13-15 SEC) couldn’t hold off a late rally from No. 6 Texas (41-10, 21-7), falling 7-4 in the series opener Thursday night in Norman. Game two is set for 6:30 p.m. CT Friday on SECN+

The Sooners led 3-1 through five innings, fueled by Trey Gambill’s leadoff homer and an RBI double from Easton Carmichael. Starter Kyson Witherspoon struck out eight over 6.1 innings, allowing just two earned runs.

Texas tied it in the seventh and took a brief lead in the eighth before OU answered with a Jaxon Willits RBI single to even the score at 4-4. In the ninth, Max Belyeu playing his first game back from injury — crushed a three-run homer to seal it for the Longhorns.

OU reliever Dylan Crooks (L, 2-1) was tagged with the loss. Carmichael and Willits each tallied two hits.
