A man and a young girl drowned Monday night after a canoe carrying four people flipped on a lake in Muskogee County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Troopers have identified the man as 42-year-old Roscoe Beasley.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says on Monday night, a canoe carrying 4 people flipped over in a lake at Silver Canyon RV Ranch between Muskogee and Oktaha. Two of them managed to swim back to shore, but the other two disappeared. OHP says they received a call around 8:00 a.m. of 2 victims missing out of a canoe.
Troopers say the drowning victims were located early Tuesday morning. The OHP dive team came out at first light to retrieve their bodies. Troopers say the rising water levels from the rain did not play a part in the tragedy. They are now looking into why the 4 people were out there and what caused the canoe to flip.
Troopers say Beasley and a 14-year-old girl died. They say they are part of a larger family, but they are unsure of what their exact relationship is.
