News On 6 anchor LeAnne Taylor was honored Wednesday with the Saidie Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Women in Communications Tulsa.

The recognition came during AWC Tulsa’s 50th annual Newsmakers Awards Luncheon at Southern Hills Country Club.

Honoring a Tulsa TV icon

LeAnne Taylor, who co-anchors “6 in the Morning” on News On 6, was selected for the Saidie Adwon Lifetime Achievement Award.

The award is named after the first woman to serve as general manager of a television station in Oklahoma. Saidie Adwon was named GM of KTUL in 1980, breaking ground for women in broadcasting.

Taylor has been a familiar face on Tulsa television for decades and has long supported AWC Tulsa, frequently emceeing the Newsmakers luncheon. She was also named a Newsmaker herself in 2005.

Celebrating more women leaders

Alongside Taylor, AWC Tulsa recognized three additional Newsmakers for their leadership and impact:

  1. Dr. Ebony Johnson, superintendent of Tulsa Public Schools
  2. Kimberly Johnson, CEO of the Tulsa City-County Library
  3. Jennifer Loren, senior director of Cherokee Film

AWC Tulsa selected each of these honorees for making significant strides in advancing opportunities for women and building a better future for their communities.

“This organization started in a man's world, and we are still working today to break through that ceiling,” Brandi Moore, board president of AWC Tulsa. “AWC Tulsa also does philanthropic activities throughout the year to help raise funds, where we can give back to our young children and inspire them to be communicators in this world.”

A milestone year for AWC Tulsa

This year marks the 50th anniversary of AWC Tulsa’s Newsmakers Awards, which spotlight Oklahoma women who have made news through their leadership, dedication and achievements.

"Association of Women in Communications Tulsa is an independent nonprofit," Moore said. "It's an association of women that are from all different avenues of communications, PR, and marketing."

Moore added that this year’s honorees represent a powerful legacy. “We are celebrating women and leaders in our community that have made a lasting impact. Their legacy is what we're celebrating today.”
