Grant Shupp, 21, has always been involved in sports, participating in basketball, track, and cross-country. Though he initially pursued a career in athletics, he felt a different calling.
As a pastor's kid and a believer in Jesus Christ, Shupp's path took a significant turn when he decided to drop out of college to follow a new purpose—one that blends creativity and faith.
Shupp’s journey into custom sneaker design began after a painful breakup. Shupp said the emotional fallout from the breakup led him to start his sneaker business, KicksThruChrist.
Initially, he designed a pair of custom sneakers to get his ex's attention, but that didn’t happen. Instead, Shupp began wearing those shoes daily, receiving constant compliments.
He used $6,000 in savings from a previous job to invest in the equipment needed to pursue sneaker design.
What he once saw as a painful setback became the foundation for his business.
Shupp’s business caters to both individuals and larger groups. He says while he designs custom sneakers for individual clients, he also creates bulk orders and sells them online and at events such as Sneaker Con and HLY (Holy) Summit in Atlanta and Denver.
As a Christian influencer, Shupp shares kind, uplifting content aimed at those struggling with issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, and abandonment.
Through high-quality, engaging videos and relatable messages, he offers encouragement and shows his followers that they are not alone. He hopes to inspire others to pursue their own purpose, just as he has.
For Shupp, God is the primary inspiration behind his content. He says he believes that by sharing his own struggles and triumphs, he can help others who are facing similar challenges.
Shupp says his goal is to remind people that God has a plan for everyone, and they are never alone in their journey.
Shupp has a couple of standout moments he holds dear. One of his favorite videos is from his sneaker business, where he rallied college peers to donate enough money to create a custom sneaker for a special needs child.
Another memorable video was from a trip to Miami, where Shupp asked strangers if they wanted a hug. One person, who had prayed for a hug, said yes.
For Shupp, sharing his faith on social media is important because he sees it as the foundation for everything he does.
He says that without God, he wouldn't have the opportunities he has today. His faith and gratitude for God’s gifts are a central part of his mission, and he strives to express that through his online presence.
As a content creator, Shupp has also found ways to give back. He was able to purchase a smart TV for his grandmother and recently traveled to New York City and Miami to give $200 to a stranger.
