The Oklahoma House of Representatives and State Senate have overwhelmingly approved a bill that would save Oklahomans sales tax money on the purchase of gun safety devices.
House Republican Nick Archer from Elk City, and Democratic State Senator Jo Anna Dossett from Tulsa Co-authored the bill.
The measure passed 25-2 in the State House, and 43-1 in the State Senate
The measure would exempt firearm safety devices and gun safety devices from state sales tax.
The measure defines a firearm safety device as a gun safe, gun lock box, gun case, barrel lock, or trigger lock, or any other device used to store a gun that is designed only to be unlocked with a key, combination, or other means.
Senate Bill 50 defines a gun safety device as a device to be equipped or installed on a firearm that permits a user to program the firearm to operate only for specific persons designated by the user through computerized locking devices.
$178,000 in Fiscal Year 2026.
$311,000 in Fiscal Year 2027.
