Mother’s Day is around the corner, and new data from OpenTable shows moms are hoping for something simple: less stress, fewer decisions and more time to relax.
From scenic views to solo brunches, here’s what’s topping the wish list in 2025.
Nearly 40 percent of moms surveyed said they had to book their own Mother’s Day meals in 2024, according to OpenTable. Even more—44 percent—said they’d prefer someone else to take charge of the day’s plans.
The message is clear: moms want a break from the mental load, especially when it comes to their own celebration.
Surprisingly, one in three moms said they would rather dine alone on Mother’s Day. This trend toward solo dining reflects a broader cultural shift toward embracing personal time and self-care.
“Having time to yourself is a gift in itself,” one respondent noted. The desire for independence is reshaping how families plan their celebrations.
Brunch continues to be the top meal for families celebrating mom. Seventy-three percent of mothers said brunch with their children is their ideal way to celebrate. But earlier dining is gaining traction. Nearly half of surveyed moms (46 percent) said they prefer to start early to enjoy more relaxation later in the day.
OpenTable data supports this trend—10 a.m. reservations saw a 19 percent jump last year.
Scenic views are a top priority, with 64 percent of moms saying they’d choose a spot with a waterfront or picturesque setting.
A luxurious touch is also appreciated—51 percent of moms said they’d love a chef’s tasting menu as part of the experience.
Mother’s Day is one of the busiest dining days of the year, and last-minute planning can backfire. Nearly 30 percent of families made their reservations within 24 hours of the holiday last year. OpenTable also saw a 36 percent increase in “Notify Me” alerts, signaling high demand and limited availability.
For those unsure where to go, OpenTable’s Top 100 Brunch Restaurants in America list offers a curated guide to the best experiences across the country, including local favorites like FRIDA Southwest in Oklahoma City.
Celebrating mom isn’t limited to Sunday brunch anymore. Two-thirds of consumers plan to honor moms multiple times throughout the weekend—with family, friends or solo.
Whether it’s a relaxing meal with loved ones or a quiet table for one, this year’s trends show moms want one thing above all else: the chance to truly enjoy their day, their way.
