Tulsa County prosecutors charge a man with luring a woman through the Nextdoor app, then raping her in a church parking lot.
Tulsa County deputies say Spencer Gougler, told the victim he was hiring her to babysit and clean his car for him.
Deputies arrested Gougler Monday morning at the Tulsa County courthouse when he showed up for a different case.
What Happened:
Tulsa County Deputies say in March, a woman called 911 from a church near Owasso, saying she had just been assaulted. Deputies found the woman hiding behind the building.
"She could hear someone crying and whimpering. That's how she actually found the victim. When the deputy found the victim she was very scared," said Detective Bobbi Heathcott with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office.
The victim told deputies she met Spencer Gougler on the Nextdoor app because she was looking to work some side jobs. Deputies say Gougler used the name "Spencer Guler" on the app.
"The suspect had reached out to her saying, 'Hey I might have some work for you to do.' He was rather vague on what that work might be. They finally settled on a price after a few days of talking back and forth," said Heathcott.
Court Documents:
The affidavit says Gougler agreed to pay the victim $50 per hour for her to wash his car.
Investigators say Gougler picked the victim up at a grocery store in Owasso, then drove her to the church and said he wanted to pay her to "hook up." The victim said no and said, "That is illegal, I am not a prostitute."
Investigators say Gougler then raped the victim and the victim was able to push Gougler off of her, escape, run away and call 911.
Identifying Gougler as the Suspect:
Investigators say they used cell phone data and information from the Nextdoor app to identify Gougler and they say the data and messages matched the victim's account.
"They had traveled a specific route that she couldn't remember all the details of, but fortunately, her phone showed the location history so we could verify that," said Heathcott.
Victim's Bravery:
Investigators say the victim was scared but is brave to come forward.
"If this girl wouldn't have come forward, we would have never known. This guy would still be out there and be able to do it to other women, other girls," said Heathcott.
Investigators say if there are any other victims, they are encouraged to call the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office.
Gougler's Criminal History:
Gougler is now in the Tulsa County jail charged with first degree rape by instrumentation.
Records show Gougler has previous convictions for stealing packages off people porches, having a gun as a felon, drugs and having stolen property.
