2 people were rescued and another 2 are missing after a car was swept away by flood waters near the creek around 17700 E Highway 64 Sunday afternoon according to the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office.
A woman wearing a pink shirt and purple pants, and a minor wearing green are still being accounted for after the incident according to authorities. Approximately 100 responders on scene right now for the ongoing search effort.
In a statement, TCSO said:
Rescue crews are currently searching flood waters along Highway 64 south of Leonard after a family's vehicle was swept away. Two people were rescued, but two others, including a child, remain missing. Due to recent rains, area creeks and rivers are swollen, so we urge motorists to avoid driving through flood water.
Officials say the car attempted to cross over a low bridge, but the water level was too high, resulting in the car being submerged.
Multiple agencies have responded to the incident, and searchers say they remain hopeful they will find both.
TCSO Captain Michael Heisten stressed the importance of turning around when there's water in the roadway.
"We're coming into a rainy season. We've had a significant amount of rainfall in the last few days. And I can't stress enough that if there's water in the roadway, please turn around. We want everybody to get home to their families safely," Heisten said.
