As daylight breaks over Pontotoc County, the full scope of the damage from a tornado that touched down in north Ada Sunday night is coming into focus. News 9’s Cameron Joyner was on the ground, reporting live as emergency crews and residents began assessing the aftermath.
The tornado tore through the area along Northeast Richardson Loop, knocking down power lines and tearing the roofs off several buildings. Among the hardest-hit locations is the Quality Inn, which suffered severe roof damage. Nearby, a Nissan dealership also lost part of its roof, while a row of small structures was destroyed.
Video from the storm's immediate aftermath shows widespread destruction: trees downed, a semi-truck overturned, and debris scattered across roads and properties. According to the Pontotoc County Emergency Manager, at least five structures were damaged in the storm, though officials say that number may increase as damage assessments continue.
The North Hills Shopping Center also reportedly sustained significant damage and will be inspected later Sunday morning.
Emergency crews remain on the scene, and News 9 will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. Residents are encouraged to stay clear of damaged areas and report any hazards to local authorities.
