Dozens of demonstrators gathered in Tulsa this weekend as part of a national “No Kings” protest movement aimed at expressing opposition to the Trump administration and reaffirming support for democratic values and First Amendment rights.
Holding signs and encouraging drivers to honk in support, participants lined sidewalks and called attention to what they described as authoritarian tendencies in national leadership.
“We are protesting Donald Trump," said one attendee. "We are practicing our First Amendment rights to assemble."
The Tulsa demonstration was one of many taking place across the country under the “No Kings” banner — a phrase meant to reject concentrated power and promote the ideals of representative government.
According to CBS News, similar rallies took place in midtown Manhattan, outside the White House, and at a Revolutionary War commemoration in Massachusetts — a symbolic reminder of the nation’s founding rejection of monarchy and tyranny.
These events aimed to connect current political concerns with the historical roots of American democracy.
While the demonstrations were peaceful, the message was pointed. Protesters called for accountability, transparency, and greater civic participation leading into the 2024 election cycle.
Organizers of the “No Kings” movement say more protests may be held in the months ahead, urging Americans to remain engaged in protecting democratic institutions.
