Some people living in Claremore are getting letters from the city as communities across the country ask people to check their homes for lead pipes.

Who’s Getting Letters?

The city posted on Facebook Thursday to let people know that if their home is built before 1986, they should expect a letter from the city.

Why 1986?

The city said homes built in that year or before could have lead pipes, fixtures or solder in their plumbing. Lead exposure, according to the EPA, is harmful.

What Should I Do If I Get A Letter?

If you don’t know if the pipes in your home are made of metal or PVC, call a plumber. You are responsible for the pipes inside your home and the pipes that connect your home to your community’s water supply.

Is The Water Safe?

Yes. The City of Claremore, and all cities, are required to test regularly for lead. Claremore’s water supply has never had lead violations.
