Northeastern State University’s Broken Arrow campus is opening its doors to young science enthusiasts this summer with two free weeklong camps focused on biology and environmental science.
Designed for students in grades 8 through 10, these camps offer immersive, project-based learning experiences in STEM fields — and they’re completely free of charge.
The first camp, “Get Green for Blue: Outdoor STEM Investigations Connecting Water to You,” runs June 2 through 6. Students will explore water systems and environmental science topics through engaging outdoor activities and experiments.
The second session, “Camp Biomed: A Glowing Overview,” runs June 23 through 27 and focuses on biology and biomedical science. Campers will participate in interactive lab-style projects while learning scientific methods.
Both camps are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Lunch and snacks are provided at no cost.
NSU officials say the goal of the free camps is to spark interest in STEM fields while building real-world skills.
“These programs give students a chance to experience science beyond the classroom — through experiments, teamwork, and fieldwork,” said organizers in a statement. “It’s an opportunity to connect curiosity with career pathways.”
Each camp combines academic learning with hands-on activities designed to keep students engaged and inspired.
Parents can register their students now through the Northeastern State University website. Applications are required, and spots may be limited.
In addition to the free camps for middle and high schoolers, NSU-Broken Arrow will also offer weekly camps for children ages 4 through 12 during June. These paid programs will cover topics like STEM, camping and cooking, and include early drop-off and late pick-up options for working families.
