As the Oilers prepare for the playoffs, the team has good reason to go in confident. Tulsa set a new franchise record for road victories this year, and also took the season series with Kansas City, which happens to be their first-round opponent.
Tulsa defender Duggie Lagrone said, “ We know we can beat them, but this is a whole new season right now. We have to go back and play our game.”
Lagrone added, “In my three seasons here, I haven’t been outside of the first round, so for us to make it out of the first round would be awesome.”
This will be a rematch with Kansas City after Tulsa lost in the first round to the Mavericks last year. This looks to be a different Oilers squad, though, with them reaching 40 wins for just the second time in franchise history.
Head coach Rob Murray said, “All the details of the game are magnified at this point in the year. You can get left behind if you are not ready for that. You have to be ready right off the hop.”
The Oilers know how to put on a show, having scored more than 240 goals for just the second time since the 2014-2015 campaign.
The Oilers and Mavericks open their best-of-seven series on Friday night in Kansas City. Game three in Tulsa will be on Tuesday night, April 22, at the BOK Center with the puck dropping at 7:05 p.m.
