A local organization called Connecting Through Rhythm is seeking a space where it can hold music healing programs, the executive director told News 9 on Wednesday.
“The opposite of suffering is connection,” said Kyle “Sage” Bailey, the executive director of Connecting Through Rhythm.
Bailey shared that he is a complex trauma survivor.
“Complex trauma is different kinds of traumas that have happened at different times in our lives. I experienced childhood trauma, neglect, abandonment, abuse, sexual abuse.”
Bailey said he knows how lonely surviving can be.
"I've attempted suicide several times. It's been many years now, over 20, but I've been that person that just couldn't find connection — couldn't find someone to talk to you."
So, he set out to create an organization that connects people through rhythm.
He said he uses evidence-based practices, like bilateral stimulation, to help process trauma.
"Through group drumming, we can accomplish nonverbal communication and connectedness,” Bailey added.
Bailey said he has everything he needs to facilitate groups and healing – except for the space.
"What if there was a space that these people, when they feel disconnected, when they feel these very unpleasant emotions-- what if there was a place that they could go and just be people, form connections [and] friendships that last lifetimes?"
He explained that he is looking for a charitable lease with a minimum of 5,000 square feet.
“You have a space that’s derelict. Let’s turn that into something useful for the community. You get all this tax write off, and we get a space where we can improve people’s lives.”
