A vulnerable metro woman remains in the hospital weeks after Del City police rescued her from alleged torture and abuse. One of the first officers on the scene described the conditions the intellectually disabled woman lived through. Del City investigators telling News 9 this was one of the worst cases of abuse they have seen.

Del City police had their body cameras rolling the night they confronted the 29-year-old victim’s caretaker Jennifer Wendt at her home.

“I was actually at the scene that night,” said Major Michael Arterbury, Del City Police Department. “Very, very disturbing interior of the home.”

Major Michael Arterbury said the victim had been living at the home since January. Her family became concerned in March when they did not hear from her, until it was almost too late.

“Enough to get them to say, ‘Hey somethings going on here, we need to get her out of there,’” said Arterbury.

Police described the victim as having a "diminished mental capacity" but she was able to describe the abuse she allegedly suffered at the hands of Wendt, along with roommates Cody Linnell and Schotte-Shaun Wengland.

Court documents said Wendt routinely hit the victim with scissors, paddles, belts, a hammer and ripped off her toenails. The victim told police she was punished for stealing vapes and “not doing what she was told.” A resident in the home told police Wendt and Wengland would put a collar on the victim and walk her around like a dog.

“There were multiple people in the house,” said Arterbury. “I don’t know how they could have not seen it and thought to report this.”

Police said doctors confirmed the type of abuse and torture the victim endured based on her injuries.

“I can’t even wrap my head around it, as bad as it was,” said Arterbury. “You’re talking about a young woman who is literally injured over every part of her body from head to toe.”

Police say four people have been arrested in connection to the abuse or failing to report the abuse. Three of the five suspects have been charged with kidnapping, multiple counts of domestic assault and battery and maiming. Police said Wengland is on the run and ask citizens to call 911 if they know his whereabouts.

Doctors told police the victim not only a skull fracture and multiple broken bones but that she was suffering from pneumonia, sepsis and was in kidney failure.
