This week’s edition of Your Vote Counts tackled several major issues impacting Oklahoma, including a sweeping executive order on education, ongoing workforce challenges, and the state's response to recent wildfires.
One of the biggest topics was President Trump's executive order to eliminate the U.S. Department of Education. While the move aligns with his campaign promise, panelists noted that it would require congressional approval.
Senator Paul Rosino and Jason Dunnington discussed the potential impact on Oklahoma, highlighting concerns over funding. If the department is dissolved, federal education dollars could be redirected through block grants, though specifics remain unclear.
However, others expressed optimism that state control over education funding could provide new opportunities.

The discussion then shifted to the ongoing challenges in the workforce, particularly regarding child care accessibility. Leaders acknowledged that the high cost of child care has kept many parents out of the workforce, especially those with infants.
"This isn't just an Oklahoma problem—this is a national issue," Rosino stated. While state lawmakers are exploring potential solutions, funding remains a key challenge. Past efforts have stalled, but there is renewed urgency to address the problem and unlock Oklahoma’s workforce potential.

Recent wildfires across Oklahoma constituted the final segment, with praise for first responders and volunteers who risked their lives to protect homes and communities.
"Our firefighters—both professional and volunteer—worked tirelessly to battle these fast-moving fires," Dunnington said. Officials warned against burning debris and careless actions, such as discarding cigarettes or dragging chains that could spark new fires.
