US Senator Markwayne Mullin held a virtual town hall meeting Monday night to answer questions about Capitol Hill.

Several of those questions focused on efforts from DOGE to cut the federal government's budget, illegal immigration and tariffs.

Mullin says President Donald Trump is using the tariffs to balance out how other countries "treat" the US.

"We're not looking for a trade war with anybody," Mullin said. "We're just looking to be treated fairly, and fairly means the same."

Mullin says the tariffs will go into effect April 2, and will likely go back and forth for a few months until other countries strike a deal with the US.
