OKLAHOMA CITY -
It is that time of year for sneezing, runny noses and itchy eyes, which are signs of seasonal allergies.
Greg Krempl, a University of Oklahoma professor, tells us what we can expect and suggests remedies.
Krempl said it would be a more intense season because the winter was not what we would call a "severe winter."
Here are some things to know if you suffer from pollen.
What causes allergies?
- Allergies happen when the immune system sees a substance and thinks it is harmful.
- Your body responds by overreacting.
What are symptoms unique to allergies?
- Red Itchy eyes
- Multiple sneezing
Remedies
- Visiting your local pharmacy for medication remedies
- Antihistamines - Krempl said these work relatively quickly
- Over-the-counter nasal sprays - These may take some time to work
- Honey - locally produced honey - is pollinated with the pollen specific to its location
