Bryan Logan, David Nelson advance to Oklahoma Senate District 8 Republican runoff election

Oklahoma voters will decide the Republican nominee for the unexpired Senate District 8 seat in an upcoming runoff election.

Candidates Bryan Logan of Paden, Oklahoma, and David Nelson of Morris, Oklahoma, emerged as the top two contenders in the March 4 primary.

Logan and Nelson topped a crowded GOP primary field, but failed to secure more than 50% of the vote, necessitating a runoff.

Logan received nearly 41% of the vote, and Nelson received nearly 32%. The runoff election is set for April 1, 2025.

The special election was triggered following the resignation of Sen. Roger Thompson (R-Okemah), leaving the seat vacant.

Sen. Thompson announced his resignation in June 2024 following his removal as Senate Appropriations and Budget Committee chairman.

Senate District 8 covers portions of northeastern Oklahoma, including communities in Creek, McIntosh, Muskogee, Okfuskee and Okmulgee Counties.

The winner of the Republican runoff will advance to face Democrat Nathan Brewer and Independent Steve Sanford, both of Henryetta, in a general election on May 13.
