One of the main entrances to Gathering Place the Williams Lodge. This 2,500 square-foot building is one of the largest buildings in the park.
George Kaiser wanted its design to look like part of the landscape, so the lodge is surrounded by and built with Oklahoma native stone from Haskell County. Every boulder that you see weighs anywhere from 1,000 pounds to 5,000.
Park leaders tell us each boulder was precision cut at a quarry and labeled for a specific spot at the lodge. There is seating in the great room, with a gorgeous view of Peggy's Pond, where families can relax in the air conditioning or enjoy activities on rainy days.
The centerpiece of the lodge is a massive, two-story fireplace. It's large enough for you to walk around it.
For right now, park leaders say you won't be able to reserve a spot here at the lodge or any of the locations around the park for private events. But you will be able to eat here at the lodge and at other locations.
