‘Boom in the Valley’ canceled after fire injures 5 at Tuskahoma Capitol grounds

A fire erupted around 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Tuskahoma Capitol Grounds during preparations for the annual Boom in the Valley celebration, injuring several people and forcing organizers to cancel the event.

The fire broke out while crews were working to set up the fireworks event. The Choctaw Nation confirmed the fire caused injuries to at least five people, though details about their conditions have not been released.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire. The Choctaw Nation said an investigation is in progress, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Boom in the Valley, which was scheduled for Thursday, July 3, has officially been canceled due to the incident.

In a statement, the Choctaw Nation expressed concern for those affected and asked the community to “join us in praying for those injured.”
