Tulsa's Crime Prevention Network is offering these tips for anyone using trails or parks, in light of recent assaults at Turkey Mountain and Hunter Park.

Director Karen Gilbert said the most important tip is for people to be aware of their surroundings.

  1. Avoid distractions like music or deep thoughts when walking in public areas or neighborhoods
  2. Report suspicious activity: 911 for emergencies or non-emergency number 918-596-9222
  3. If you prefer anonymity, call the Crime Prevention Network tip line: 918-596-COPS
  4. Carry mace or pepper spray
  5. Walk with a buddy or your dog—both for safety and exercise.
  6. Don't hesitate to report suspicions; even small details can help police identify a suspect
