News On 6's studio is getting a major upgrade, but the old set isn’t going to waste. Instead, it’s found a new home at Oklahoma State University, where journalism students are getting a behind-the-scenes look at how they’ll use it to prepare for their careers.
A student guide at OSU wasted no time showing off the features of the donated studio, racing through the space with an energetic breakdown of the equipment.
“First up—we have the new desk. New desk, new platform. New backdrop—monitor wall. There’s even a monitor on the front of the news desk. Who does that? We do,” he said in the tour.
He points out other highlights, including the green screen for weather, a rolling sports desk also from KOTV's old studio, a program monitor and an interview space. The studio even features a weather desk designed for quick updates during severe weather coverage.
The tour also extended into the production area. OSU students have access to a professional control room, audio booth and behind-the-scenes technology that mirrors a working newsroom.
OSU's news director says these tools will give students a real-world environment to learn the craft of broadcast journalism.
KOTV leaders say the donation is more than just a set of equipment. It’s a way to invest in the future of journalism by helping students develop the skills they’ll need in a fast-changing media landscape.
News On 6 is excited to see how OSU puts the tools to work as students learn to produce, anchor and deliver the news.
