The 24th annual Tulsa Junior Achievement Golf Classic raised nearly $100,000 on Monday morning.
Chief Operating Officer Erica Irvine said the golf tournament is a fun, friendly competition among its corporate partners and board companies.
"It supports Junior Achievement of Oklahoma and helps us with funding some of our programs that we run in schools here in the area, starting with kindergarten up through high school," she said.
The mission of Junior Achievement of Oklahoma is to inspire and prepare students across Oklahoma for future success. Its programs focus on financial literacy, career readiness, and entrepreneurship.
"Everything that we do is to help young people know where their path is beyond high school graduation, whether that be college, trade school, military, straight to work, whatever that path is," said Irvine.
Financial literacy is a key component, and board companies, like CCK Strategies, work closely with the students to teach it. John Curzon is a founding partner and the State Board Chair for Junior Achievement of Oklahoma.
"There is nothing better than sitting at a table with a young man or young woman, and the light bulb clicks, and they realize that there is life after high school," he continued, "It helps them just with everyday tasks; buying groceries, getting an apartment to rent, or buying a car and going through the budget process."
The golf tournament only happens once a year; however, Junior Achievement of Oklahoma is always in need of donations. People can give once or on a monthly basis here.
The nonprofit also relies heavily on volunteers. Anyone interested is asked to fill out a short form on the Junior Achievement of Oklahoma website.
