Two members of OSU’s national champion golf team have moved into round two of the match play portion of the US Amateur Championship at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, CA.
Preston Stout, the medalist after posting the low two-round total in stroke play, earned the top seed and handled Pennson Badgett 4 and 3. Eric Lee’s day was a little more stressful. The California native came up with a birdie to beat Filip Jakubcik in 19 holes to advance.
OU standout Jase Summy took control of his match with Zachary Miller on the back nine, closing things out with a birdie on the par 3 15th for a 5 and 3 win.
Former Cascia Hall star Will Sides of SMU was the 9 seed but fell in his first round match to Jacob Modleski 5 and 4.
John Daly II, the son of longtime pro John Daly, advanced to Thursday by beating Cooper Claycomb 1-up.
The round of 32 gets underway Thursday at 8:00 am Pacific when Stout faces David Liechty. Summy takes on Mahanth Chirravuri at 10:10 a.m., and Lee goes head-to-head with Cohen Trolio at 10:30 a.m. Daly plays Nate Smith at 9:40 a.m.
John Holcomb began his career at News On 6 in November 1995 and has held the position of sports director since September 1999. He anchors weeknight sportscasts at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. He co-hosts the Oklahoma Ford Sports Blitz and anchors the Oklahoma Ford Friday Football Blitz.
