Parents of Broken Arrow Public Schools students can now track their child’s school bus in real time thanks to a new app the district is rolling out this year.

The district says the My Ride K-12 app will help ensure students arrive safely to and from school while easing parents’ concerns.

How the app works

The app provides live updates on when a bus arrives and departs from both bus stops and schools. Parents can enter their child’s student ID number, name and birthdate to see their route and stop times.

Why the district made the change

Broken Arrow Public Schools Transportation Manager Tammie White said the app gives families a clear point of reference if a child is running late.

“There are a lot of times where students get sidetracked along the way home, they don’t show up when they’re supposed to and a parent will panic thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, where’s my child,’” White said. “They can go to their app and look and it shows the bus got to the bus stop at a specific time. Then the parent can start from that time forward looking for their child.”

Added safety features

The district is also testing a scanning system at one elementary school. Students scan when boarding and exiting the bus, creating a digital log of their travel. If successful, the system could expand districtwide.

How parents can sign up

Instructions for downloading and setting up the app are available on the transportation page of the district’s website. Parents can also call the district for help with setup. The app is free to download in both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
